Deacons.

The servant leaders of

Orange Coast Community Church

Now at this time, while the disciples were increasing in number... the twelve summoned the congregation of the disciples and said, "It is not desirable for us to neglect the word of God in order to serve tables.  Therefore, brethren, select from among your seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may put in charge of this task...."

Acts 6:1-3

As in every social endeavor, the gathering of the church body inevitably comes with logistical, organizational and labor demands.  Somebody has to keep an eye on the facilities and the supplies.  Somebody has to keep the place clean.  That labor falls to the deacons of the church.  A group of selfless, people dedicated to serving God and their fellow men.  As you will see below, these folks serve not for a month or even a few months, but for years at a time!

The position of deacon is completely voluntary and seldom recognized.  They are literally the people behind the scenes.  Here we want to introduce these people to you because they do deserve acknowledgement from us.  Thank you to our wonderful deacons!

I Like To Help People

“I like to help people where I can and being a deacon gives me that opportunity and it brings me satisfaction. I will keep doing it until they kick me out!”

I'm Happy To Do What I Can

“I started serving around the church kitchen when I first started coming to this church, then Ted Rzeszewski told me I should be a deacon. Well, why not? It’s something I can do. I can’t work in the office, I can’t do anything else, but I can do this! I’m happy to do whatever I can do.”

This Church Has Changed My Life

A Servant Of The Body

“A deacon is a servant of the body of God and that could mean any number of things. We do our best to make sure the facilities are in working order and looking good, but we also have a hand in organizing events and making sure they run well, like our annual picnic. There is satisfaction in knowing that I am doing well for the rest of my brothers and sisters.”

To Prepare The Place For People to Worship God

“Our family was helping out in the kitchen and doing some of the things that a deacon normally would when I received the invitation to become part of the deacon team. The roll of a deacon is to serve the people and to help maintain the building and keep it going, so agreed. I like knowing that I am helping to prepare the place for people to come and worship God.”

Helping Brings Us Together

“I was very involved in the church and serving in a number of ways when I was invited to become a deacon.  I agreed because I think serving is important.  God has done so much for us; it’s only natural for us to want to serve Him.  Also, when we serve we set an example for others to get involved.  This brings us together and also helps the church to continue moving forward.”

Our joy is to support  the church

“Our joy is to support the church and the pastor.  If there is any need, we deacons step in and take care of it.  It's all about being a servant to God and His people.”

I've been happy to serve

After many years at OCCC I decided to make myself useful and join the weekly church cleaning team.  Eventually I was asked to join the deacon board.  I asked what that meant, and was told to "just keep cleaning".  I've been happy to serve and keep our facility top notch ever since.
